Vitrectomy Indications for RD

Systematic vitrectomy for retinal detachment (RD) can be considered as a logical strategy as it theorically removes the vitreous traction which is reponsible for RD in 80% of the cases. However, in such pathology, a complete vitrectomy carries with itself a number of complications (iatrogenic tears, vitreo-retinal incarceration, cristalline lens touch, endophtalmitis...) which force to weigh up the pros and cons of vitrectomy approach.
